The Team Bullett Race Team had a successful run on the Salt in 2009.
The Yamaha Warrior which Cliff Gullett rode in past years, and which set numerous records, was ridden by his brother, Dale Gullett, and he set two new records on that bike. LeAnne Gullett, honored Cliff's dedication to the Salt by sponsoring the Blue Yamaha Warrior in his name, and in the name of the many exceptional sponsors, who supported Cliff and Jack Costello in their "Quest for 400"! The Team Bullett Truck and Trailer took the first run down the salt on the opening day of "BUB"as a tribute to Cliff!
Cliff's great friend, Wink Eller raced his bike at Speed Week under the name "Spirit of Cliff Gullett". This bike had already set 41 land speed records, and on August 11th, 2009, it set yet another.
Plans are being formulated for racing during the 2010 season and will be posted here as determined.

LAND SPEED RECORD FACTS!
For those of you who may be skeptical of these achievements, you should know some important facts. First, riding on salt is not the most simple thing to do. It is granular, and as such, the traction loss can be as much as 15 per cent, so to go 200 miles per hour over a one mile run, your wheels would be turning at over 230 miles per hour. Then add in moisture, and wind, and the equation gets even more difficult. And the record isn't set by one run over a mile.In order to establish a World Land Speed Record, you run over a three mile course. Each mile is recorded and the speed is determined. If any one mile in that three mile run exceeds the World Record, the bike is taken by officials to an inspection area. They inspect the bike for compliance with the class being run. They can even require the owner to tear the engine down to verify compliance. The unit is then impounded overnight. The fuel tanks are sealed and signed. The next day, the rider takes the bike from impound and proceeds to the start line and makes another three mile run. The speed is recorded again for each mile of the three run. The previous days run, by mile, is compared to the current days run by mile, and the average speed of the two miles must exceed the World Land Speed Record to take and hold the record. |
